Mapping our Impact

Substance use and opioid crises have had devastating impacts on the United States. Swift action and investment are in the interest of the nation, both to prevent a worsening of the substance use crisis and related health inequities, and to build a sustainable response system for the future. The Action Collaborative on Combatting Substance Use and Opioid Crises is poised to lead this charge and continue advancing the unified systems approach that is needed to reverse the deadly trends of the substance use crisis.  Ìý
To demonstrate and track impact, we are mapping how the Action Collaborative is driving systems change, contributing to the field, and making a difference. The two maps presented below illustrate the direct impacts we are having through our work products and activities, as well as the critical role the Action Collaborative plays in fostering a coordinated and cohesive systems response to the substance use crisis.Ìý
Ìý Ìý ÌýSystems Map
The systems map depicts the Action Collaborative’s stakeholder groups and is used to prioritize high-impact opportunities for collective action. This map illustrates the necessity of a systems approach to combatting the substance use crisis, as well as the contributions of various stakeholders. It also shows the need for enhanced coordination and alignment, underscoring the important role the Action Collaborative plays in this broader ecosystem, primarily through its convening power.

The impact map illustrates the progress Action Collaborative stakeholder groups made during Phase I (2018–2020) and Phase II (2021–2022) in collectively addressing four high-priority elements of the nation’s response to the opioid crisis: health professional education; pain management guidelines; prevention, treatment, and recovery services; and research, data, and metrics needs. The Action Collaborative serves as a neutral platform through which to facilitate dialogue and discussion among representatives from multiple sectors around topics of mutual interest and concern.
